Stormwater Resilience & Outreach

The VI Clean Coasts Erosion Team is composed of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) and the VI Conservation Society (VICS). The Stormwater Resilience & Outreach Initiative helps community members in the USVI manage erosion and stormwater on their property.  We are currently working in the Bovoni community located in the Jersey Bay Watershed of St. Thomas.

The Stormwater Resilience & Outreach Initiative can help by providing community members with FREE professional assessments, suggestions, and educational demonstrations to manage stormwater and erosion.

Why is the Stormwater Resilience & Outreach Initiative focusing on erosion?

Improperly manages stormwater often results in runoff, flooding, and erosion on residential and commercial properties. Eroded sediment and pollutants are carried in stormwater along roads and ghuts into the marine environment, causing harm to valuable coastal habitats, such as coral reefs. This project aims to help community members improve stormwater management and reduce erosion at the source, ultimately reducing harmful sediments and pollutants into the marine environment.
