Refill Bottles, Not Dumpsters
This initiative works with schools and educational programs in the Virgin Islands to purchase and install filtered bottle fill stations as well as provide reusable water bottles to students and staff.
Our Purpose
The VI Clean Coasts Refill Bottles, Not Dumpsters Initiative helps schools and students by providing filtered, cold drinking water and reusable bottles for each student. Many of our schools don’t have consistent access to clean drinking water and students are being asked to bring two single use plastic water bottles to school, per day! We aim to eliminate single use plastic bottles and instead provide drinking water that has been filtered of lead, chlorine, and other impurities by purchasing and installing filtered bottle fill stations.
The Refill Bottles, Not Dumpsters initiative is a partnership between our two main programs: Eco-Schools and VI Clean Coasts. For more information on the impact of Refill Bottles, Not Dumpsters within local schools visit the Water Smart pages.
Introducing the Water Generator to the USVI...
In August 2024, VI Clean Coasts distributed a seed grant to Red Hook Dive Center for a water generator. Red Hook Dive Center, located in St. Thomas is an Eco-Certified businesses– they are have completely eliminated polystyrene (aka Styrofoam) from their operations and with the help of the water generator, have now completely eliminated single use plastic bottles. The water generator is a unique machine that takes water vapor from the air and filters it into clean drinking water! Interested in applying for a water generator?
