About Us: The Virgin Islands Conservation Society (VICS) is the oldest non-profit conservation organization in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our mission is to promote the conservation and restoration of island ecosystems, sustainable development, and awareness of conservation issues. We strive to protect our islands, fostering community resilience and preserving our natural resources for a sustainable future. We believe in working with local conservation-related organizations and community members to build capacity and address common challenges and opportunities within the Territory. Join us in safeguarding the Virgin Islands’ beauty and vitality!
The Residential Erosion Control Initiative aims to educate and help homeowners assess and manage land erosion. Sediment from development and poor stormwater and wastewater management are significant issues for the coastal habitats in the US Virgin Islands. Erosion on residential property can affect neighboring properties and impact lower areas in the watershed, including the marine environment. The Residential Erosion Control program helps homeowners mitigate these risk factors by providing education, free professional assessments and suggestions, concept designs, and erosion fixes.
Job Overview: VI Clean Coasts is a public–non-profit partnership between VICS and the VI Department of Planning and Natural Resources that helps local businesses, schools, marinas, and residents improve their environmental impact. VI Clean Coasts consists of four initiatives: Eco-Certification; Refill Bottles, Not Dumpsters; Clear Waters; and Resident Erosion Control. VICS is hiring a Coordinator to execute the Residential Erosion Control program. The Coordinator will work with homeowners to recruit them into the program, coordinate and schedule visits between homeowners and landscape design firms, shepherd permitting packages through applicable agencies, track the status of projects in a database, document completed projects for community engagement and education, to be shared on the VI Department of Planning and Natural Resources’ website. This position reports to the VI Clean Coasts Program Manager and the VICS Executive Director.
